Hark A Slingshot? Girls With Vagrants?

Tonight's warmup drawing was a couple of characters from two of my favorite webcomics, Girls With Slingshots and Hark! A Vagrant.

(click for big)

I didn't get Jamie's boobs big enough, but I think I did an okay job capturing the surliness and ennui of the Mystery Solving Teens.

EDIT: Look what Kate drew in return! IS HANNERS OMG

This is an amazing rendition of the Mystery-Solving Teens.

heh... Hazel is reminding me here of what Hanners could be if she weren't... uhh... eccentric.

I didn't recognize Jamie at first with her normal-sized breasts. But Hazel is spot-on, and so is Jamie, really, except for her chest. And the Teens are all surly goodness. Will there be more of these???? #omg

It was really fun to do, so I will probably do some more at some point in the future?

I thought it was Hanners and Faye at first.

Same here. It wasn't until I looked at Danielle Corsetto's twitter that I realized who he was drawing.

Hawsome stuff, Jeph.

Yay Hazel and Jamie! I love Girls With Slingshots. Thanks for the smile. :)

Yeah, Jaime does look kind of like a happier/perkier Faye. Also, isn't Hazel a redhead? But eh, details.

The Mystery Solving Teens are spot-on though.

Looking forward to more.

Wow, those are just amazing. Seriously, you're a pretty awesome and talented artist. I've been following the strip since a guest strip from Brian Carroll waaaaay back in the archives, and you've improved immensely. You're not just talented with your characters -- you've really developed quite a style. It's been fun to watch over the years. Thank you. :)

I have to say that reasonably-sized boobs is one of the things I've liked best about your drawing, Jeph. Too much of the webcomics world is infested with girls with bowling balls and basketballs on their chests (and frankly, the Internet in general seems to imply most girls have said spheres implanted *IN* their chests).

So, YAY! for A- and B-cup Boobies!

Agreed. I also enjoy the rest of the more realistic touches you get in, like getting Steve to look buff without making him look like a WWE star or a chiseled Greek god... Too many of the webcomics I have seen have trouble with that.

Also, this may sound like a weird compliment, but you do imperfections very well. Cosette's black eye, Hanners' perpetual bag eyes, Marigold's acne... You do a good job of making them noticable while keeping them realistic. I am no artist, but I don't see a lot of that, so I assume that it is difficult to pull off.

Oh, and I guess I like the awesome storyline and stuff...

Oh, and I would like to make a request for Hanners' "OCDelightful" shirt to be made available for sale... I would buy it! Well, maybe if it came in a darker shade of blue. Baby blue does not look good on me AT ALL.

I'm intrigued by the blue line work you got going on there. Do you just sketch the characters on top of another sketch, or are you building your figures off shapes?

Doesn't Hazel have red hair? or at least strawberry blond?

And now that I read through the other comments I see that someone has already mentioned it, but as a ginger myself I don't mind reiterating the point...

That's awesome. GWS is one of my favourite comics too. I'd love to see Danielle's interpretation of your rabble of characters!

If you're ever looking for inspiration for warm-up art, I'd love to see your take on some of the men of GWS.

And I can totally imagine a rivalry between Dora's Coffee of Doom and Jameson's coffeshop, though the two of them would probably get along swimmingly.
