So, the Azumanga anime... Subbed or dubbed? I ask not just to start a flame war (though that's always a plus), but because I want to watch it.

Subbed. I hate subbed but HAD to watch it this way because the dubs just.... they just killed it.

Personally, I liked the dubbing.

The dub kills a lot of the jokes. Subbed ftw.

As a person who watches WAY too much anime and has studied the Japanese language and actually LIVED in Japan, I will ALWAYS say, unequivocally, without a doubt, SUBBED. SO many things get cut or changed in dubbed versions, whereas everything can be included in a subbed version. *sagenod*

Which is funny, because there are several anime I can think of that are better dubbed: Ghost in the Shell, Full Metal Alchemist, and Cowboy Bebop (which the director of, Shinichiro Watanabe, has stated that he prefers the English dub tot he Japanese). Though I haven't seen it, El Hazard's Japanese producers have stated that they preferred the English dub as well.

I'm not saying that dubs are inherently better than subs, and that clause to this sentence shouldn't be read as me stating that subs are better than dubs; each should be taken on their own merits, not tossed into a generalized category.

For the most part, I watch a majority of anime with subs, though there are a few (the three I mentioned above, plus Lucky Star and some others that I can't remember off the top of my head [mostly Gundam]) that I have only ever seen dubbed - and really, I prefer it that way.

I watched it with subs and I much prefer the AzuDaioh anime with subs; the English dub just doesn't work, IMO - especially not with Chiyo's cooking song.
